The Egyptian flag in its present form was introduced in 1984. Tthree equal horizontal bands are derived from the Arab Liberation flag. Black represents oppression, red the bloody battles and white bright future. The gold eagle symbolizes national hero Saladin, who headed the Arabs in the 12th century.
