The flag of Laos was first used during the war for independence in 1945. The flag was changed several times. White disc represents the full moon, old Laotian symbol of happiness and goodness. The blue band in the middle of the flag represents the life-giving river Mekong, but also the unity of the people, the ability and the bright future of the country.
