Liberia

The flag of Liberia is based on the American flag. The American Colonization Society established Liberia in 1816 as a home for freed slaves from the United States. The star represents freedom. The blue canton represents Africa, liberty, justice, and fidelity. Eleven stripes represent the signatories of the Liberian Declaration of Independence. White represents purity, cleanliness, and guilelessness and red represents steadfastness, valor, and fervor.
