The flag of Portugal is from the year 1910, when Portugal became the republic. The red symbolizes the revolution; green is the colour of chance and sea. The sign comes from 12^th century when the first Portuguese king Alfonz I. overcame Mauro kings in the battle near Ourigue. The sign remains famous era of the great Portuguese invented sailings.
