South Korea

The flag of South Korea was introduced on the year 1950. It comes from the period of independent Korean kingdom from the years 1882 – 1883. In the middle of the flag is the symbol of jin-jang. The re pictogram comes from the budhistic philosophy about the union of the contrasts in the nature. The closed circle represents the absolute, blue and red is ancient categories of the spirit and material, good and evil, day and night, woman and man. The white colour represents peace and union. Four black colours are cult signs and they represent heaven, summer and south. The moon, autumn and west. The soil, winter and North. The sun, spring and east.
